Christine Walthers
Assistant Music Director
Christine is a classically trained percussionist, steel pannist, and all-around music lover. She started her music journey in her high school’s marching band, where she played in the front ensemble and percussion section. Christine went on to pursue two degrees in music at the University of Delaware, she received her Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Master of Music degree in percussion performance. Throughout college, Christine had the opportunity to refine her music skills in many different styles- including marching percussion, orchestral percussion, Latin percussion, jazz, calypso, and soca. She has had the amazing opportunity to go on international tours with orchestras and wind ensembles to Spain and China and actively gigged as a musician throughout college. Her favorite instruments are steel pan, drum set, and timpani.
While at the University of Delaware, she fell in love with the steel pan and the culture surrounding it. Since then, Christine has been a member of several gigging steel bands and has competed in the New York Panorama competition. Christine currently plays with her steel band trio, Slap and Bop Calypso- a small steel band that plays around the tri-state area and highlights her favorite genres of music, soca, and calypso.
Christine is so happy to be back in New Jersey and is looking forward to enjoying the many infectious sounds of Asbury Park. When not doing music activities, Christine likes to spend time with her family, friends, and rabbit, Scooter.
