AUDITION SUBMISSIONS DUE BY:
11:59 PM ON SUNDAY, MAY 12TH

WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Showband 1: Ages 12 - 14

    • Rehearsals: Fridays, 4 pm - 5:30 pm

    • Stripe Requirements: Red Stripe

  • Showband 2: Ages 14 - 18

    • Rehearsals: Fridays, 5:30 pm - 7 pm 

    • Stripe Requirements: Green Stripe 

  • All students interested in the Showband must audition.

  • Showband students get early access to gigs and showcase opportunities.

  • Eligible students must be enrolled in the Core Program to audition and participate.

  • Participation in Showband requires a one-time fee of $149. This fee covers the entire 2024 Season of Showband. There is no fee to audition for Showband. Participation fees are only required if the student is accepted in the Showband Program.

  • Each Showband instrument will have a 1st and 2nd Chair.

Here’s how to audition:

This program requires dedication and ability to follow directions. Please read through all of the steps of the audition process outlined below, in addition to the recommendations and expectations for all Showband students.

Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered or given a second opportunity to submit.

For any questions or advice on setting up your audition videos prior to your submission, please contact us before you submit

  • All candidates must submit 3 files:

    • 2 Audition Videos

    • Attendance Waiver

    Audition songs are preselected, listed under Audition Materials.

    • Submissions must contain a recorded video audition with a clock with a moving second hand or running stopwatch visible. A smartphone with a running stopwatch on display is also acceptable.

    • The students auditioning must be visible in the video (including hands and faces).  It is recommended that the student preview all videos before submission to ensure the student is visible and audio quality is acceptable.

    • Please state your name and instrument at the start of the video.

    • Each audition excerpt needs to be played within one single video take. Students can submit each excerpt as separate files, or both excerpts can be performed in succession in one video.

    • Please name your video file according to this template: Student Last Name First Name Instrument Showband

      • Example: Smith_John_Drum_Showband

    • Please view this video for tips and help on how to create the best quality video submission, including aspects like lighting, background, sound, etc. 

    • If you are having trouble with completing the video audition or need materials, please contact us at info@lakehousemusicacademy.com for assistance. 

    • Upload your 2 (Two) Audition Excerpts for both groups to our supplied Dropbox link. 

    • Play along with original studio recording, make sure your instrument is audible.

  • Rudiments

    • 17 stroke roll- played to a metronome, slow medium fast tempo. (80, 100, 120) Play the rudiment four times each at each tempo.

    • One rudiment of your choice that is not a paradiddle rudiment, played to a metronome, slow medium fast tempo. (80, 100, 120) Play the rudiment four times each at each tempo.

    Latin Rhythm Groove
    Played on drumset played to a click (tempo of your choice).

    • Ex: Bossa Nova, Samba, Nanigo, Bembe

    • Play the groove for at least 45 seconds

    1-2 minute Drum Solo
    With an ostinato rhythm on the bass drum and hi-hat.

    • Consistent time must be kept in the bass and hi-hat (quarter notes, alternating, etc.)

  • All submissions must be sent via Dropbox upload. The waiver document file and Dropbox links can be found at the bottom of this page.

    You will need to sign up for a free Dropbox account to submit the audition materials. Once you are signed up for a free account, please select “Join Folder” on the dropbox page and verify your email address to gain access to the submission folder. Then add your audition videos to the folder.

    Please leave ample time to submit to ensure all files are sent correctly.

    Do not wait until the last minute to submit.

    ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY SUNDAY 12TH BY 11:59 PM.

  • It is with utmost importance that the students selected to be a part of showband have excellent attendance and participation throughout the season.

    Rehearsal Expectations:

    • Students selected to participate in the showband program are expected to be at all rehearsals and performances if they do not have a prior conflict submitted.

    • Come to rehearsals with their parts prepared and ready to play.

    • The songs for Showband are selected by the instructor and will span across several genres, students should have an open mind for playing several different genres of music. 

    • Students should prioritize being available for all/as many gigs as they can over the course of the Showband season. 

    • If students miss three or more rehearsals without notice or reason, or fail to come prepared with the material, it may lead to their removal from the Showband.
