Joseph M. Peterson has been an active professional musician for the greater part of two decades. He received his MA from Rutgers University in 2000 and shortly thereafter became a member of Local 802 Musician’s Union. Joseph has continued to work professionally as a leader and accompanist with various ensembles throughout the tri-state area. His musical artistry has allowed him to perform and record with a great number of independent musicians across several genres. Joseph is a performing artist and publisher with BMI. He has been a Producer and Host of over 25 episodes of “Jazz from the Archives” radio program on WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM. Joseph was the reference assistant at the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. His contributions have been acknowledged by several reputable authors in prominent music history texts for his aid in gathering reputable sources.

While working professionally Joseph has also pursued his love of teaching music. Joseph has had the opportunity to engage in teaching students ranging in age from Kindergarten to University. This vast scope of teaching experiences has allowed Joseph to focus on his teaching methodology and gain a better understanding of basic music principles while nurturing an enduring music appreciation. Joseph has designed a teaching approach that caters to specific individuals and aims to excel their understanding of music and music theory in connection to their particular instrument and desired music genre.
